For over nine years, we have been the trusted partner for ILoveCooking, managing and evolving their website as it grew to become one of the most popular recipe hubs in Ireland. Hosting over 13,500 recipes and articles, the site consistently attracts approximately 36,000 users per month.
As ILoveCooking's website aged, it began to suffer from performance and scalability issues. The existing WordPress setup was struggling to handle the high traffic, particularly during advertising campaigns. The platform had grown outdated, with patches and updates applied to an old system, causing frequent bugs and crashes, particularly with key features like authentication and favouriting recipes. With an ever-growing database of content, the client needed a solution that would not only resolve these issues but also provide a modern, fast, and scalable user experience.
Our task was clear: to rebuild the frontend from the ground up using Next.js, while ensuring the client could retain their existing WordPress backend and continue to manage their vast recipe library in the same familiar way.
We delivered a complete frontend rebuild using Next.js, creating a sleek, highly responsive, and fast website that significantly improved both user experience and backend performance. The new Next.js architecture drastically reduced server loads and database transactions, allowing the site to easily handle massive traffic spikes during advertising campaigns without any downtime.
Crucially, we maintained the client’s existing WordPress backend, enabling them to continue adding new recipes and managing their content with ease.
This hybrid approach—leveraging a modern frontend while retaining the familiar backend—gave ILoveCooking the best of both worlds: cutting-edge performance with seamless content management.
The result was a resounding success. The new website is sleek, fast, and fully responsive across all devices, providing an intuitive and enjoyable user experience. Since the rebuild, ILoveCooking has seen a 56.6% improvement in website performance (as measured by Google PageSpeed Insights), and stability has increased dramatically.
We also took over hosting for the site, saving the client €2,160 annually while ensuring 100% uptime In addition to hosting, we provide ongoing monitoring for security, GDPR compliance SEO optimisation , and adherence to the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) framework.
