Ardán along with the Little Cinema & Galway City of Film are delighted to open applications for their 2022 48 Hour Challenge, taking place on 18th – 21st August, with the screening taking place at the Pálás Cinema on Sunday 21st August!

This is the sixth iteration of the 48 Hour Challenge and the first to be held in person in Galway since 2019, with 2020 and 2021’s Challenges held virtually.  Up to 10 teams of between 4-10 people will take part in the Challenge, with the task of writing, shooting and editing a 5 minute film in just 48 Hours within Galway City & County between 9am Friday 19th – 9am Sunday 21st August.

To add an extra layer of difficulty, each team will have to incorporate a specific line, prop, genre and camera shot into their films! A team of industry experts will choose the Best Film which will win the top prize of €500, a place at the Galway Film Fleadh 2023 and a TG4 sponsored hoodie for each team member.  There will also be awards for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Special Effects, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Use of Line, Best Use of Prop, Best Music Score and an Audience Award.

Applications are open until 5pm Wednesday 10th August. The Rules and Guidelines are available here:  Rules & Guidelines 48 Hour Challenge 2022  and the online application form can be found here.

Entry to the Challenge is free, with a deposit of €50 taken from each team to confirm their place once they have filled out the application form. Team entry is not finalized until payment is received.

We have teamed up with Snoozles Hostel Galway to arrange a discount for accommodation for those travelling to Galway to take part as filmmakers for the Challenge. Those who need accommodation for the Challenge can indicate that in the application form.
